Prayer Shawl Ministry

Warren:  First United Methodist Church's Prayer Shawl Ministry, "An Affair of the Heart", knits and crochets Prayer Shawls Baptismal Prayer Shawls and Baptismal Prayer Blankets.  People who benefit by receiving the shawls include those who are struggling with health issues, whether physical or emotional, residents of nursing homes, and others as suggested by the Pastor or the Prayer Shawl Ministry.  Children and adults who are baptized are presented with a Baptismal Prayer Shawl or Baptismal Prayer Blanket (for babies) as a remembrance of the special day in their church life.  They are wrapped in God's Blanket of Love.

Prayer Shawls are universal and have been used for centuries, though the Prayer Shawl Ministry was begun in the United States in 1998 and at Warren:  First United Methodist Church in 2006.  This outreach is ecumenical and has spread to embrace the entire world.

Possibilities for Prayer Shawls are endless, rewards are great, and sharing the love of God is priceless.

If you crochet or knit, we would like you to be part of our ministry.  The patterns are very simple--multiples of three stitches representing the Trinity.  The spiritual practice includes thoughtful prayers of the person creating the shawl, the Prayer Shawl Ministry, the Prayer Team, and the Pastor.  Fellowship and sharing are integral parts of the process.

Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the Parlor. Women and men of all ages are encouraged to join us.  You don't need to be an expert as there are plenty of people who will be happy to help you.
